sigh.

I'd like to dispell the rumors right now. I've been quietly following the insurgence of blogs about Andy Kaufman (most notable andykaufmanreturns), and I've been terrified by the outcome. Not only are Andy's fans being outraged, but his family and friends are being hurt, too.

"andykaufmanreturns" is not written by Andy Kaufman, is not endorsed by his family and is totally false. In fact, it is an insult to Andy and his loved ones.

Andy is alive. This is true; whether one believes it or not is their choice. I believe because I know. Andrew Geoffrey Kaufman is living in California, not New York. There is no "tour," at Starbuck's or Wal-Mart or anywhere else.

Whomever it is that's claiming to be Andy is a fraud. Andy has decided not to pursue any legal action against the blog's author, but I wanted to assure his fans that the information on andykaufmanreturns is false.

Andy doesn't care what anyone thinks of his staged death. He did it to amuse himself, as always. He plans on staying "under the radar," so to speak, but he is considering making an impromptu appearance on Letterman at my request, just so that the naysayers will be silenced.
